The Excelsior is one of the most family-centered, ethnically diverse neighborhoods in San Francisco, and the Outer Mission carries the same character. Families bring kids in around age 7 for a first evaluation, return for full treatment in the teen years, and often start their own care alongside their children. We see students from Balboa High School (a designated city landmark), James Denman Middle School, Monroe Elementary, Cleveland Elementary, and the wider Mission and Excelsior schools network.
Every orthodontist on our Mission Street team completed two to three additional years of full-time orthodontic residency after dental school and practices only orthodontics. That focus matters in mixed-dentition kids whose growth must be tracked carefully, in adult cases that involve restorative or periodontal complexity, and in surgical cases that require coordination with oral surgery.

He earned his DMD at the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine, ranks among the top five most experienced Invisalign providers globally, and chairs the Advisory Board at Penn’s School of Dental Medicine. He served on the UCSF faculty and is the founding president of the Northern California Asian Dental Association. He lectures internationally, including at the American Association of Orthodontists Annual Convention. Our six other board-certified orthodontists bring more than 100 combined years of experience, and together we have treated over 60,000 patients across the Bay Area. Our office on Mission Street sits where the Outer Mission meets the Excelsior District. The Excelsior is bordered by Mission Street, I-280, and John McLaren Park, and our office is positioned for families from Mission Terrace, Outer Mission, Crocker Amazon, Ingleside, and Daly City. Patients walk in from along Mission Street, drive over from Bernal Heights and Glen Park, and take the 14-Mission Muni line that runs the corridor. Balboa High School (city landmark #205), the Royal Baking Company building, the Granada Theater site at Mission and Ocean, and Crocker Amazon Park are all within reach. The Excelsior’s Sunday Streets events bring the neighborhood together, and our team is part of that community.
What to Expect
Your first visit is a complimentary orthodontic consultation. We complete a full exam, take photos and digital scans, and present every viable treatment option. For young kids, we often recommend a monitor-and-grow plan instead of immediate treatment. For teens and adults, we present braces, Invisalign, or a combination, with timelines and investment in plain numbers. Treatment visits run every 6 to 10 weeks. Every case ends with custom retainers and a lifetime retention plan.
