braces in the San Francisco Mission

Braces in the San Francisco Mission

Braces remain a precise, reliable way to move teeth, and today’s brackets are smaller and more comfortable than ever. At our Mission Street office in the San Francisco Mission, OrthoWorks treats kids, teens, and adults with traditional braces under the care of nine board-certified orthodontic specialists. Mission, Outer Mission, and Excelsior families have trusted OrthoWorks for years because we treat every case as a long-term commitment, not a short-term project.

Braces for Mission District Patients

Braces work especially well for cases involving significant crowding, rotated teeth, growth-dependent bite correction in younger patients, and complex multi-arch movements. We treat students from Balboa High School, James Denman Middle School, Monroe Elementary, Cleveland Elementary, and the wider Mission and Excelsior schools network. Adult patients from across the Outer Mission, Mission Terrace, Excelsior, and Crocker Amazon neighborhoods choose braces when they want a fixed, predictable solution without the discipline of removable trays.

For younger Mission District patients, the American Association of Orthodontists recommends a first orthodontic visit by age 7. That visit is complimentary at our Mission Street office, and most kids walk out with a monitor-and-grow plan rather than immediate treatment. When braces are the right answer, timing them to growth often shortens overall treatment.

What Sets OrthoWorks Apart

Dr. David Shen, DMD, founded OrthoWorks. He earned his dental degree at the University of Pennsylvania, served on the UCSF faculty, and chairs the Advisory Board at Penn’s School of Dental Medicine. He is the founding president of the Northern California Asian Dental Association. The nine board-certified orthodontists on our team have more than 100 combined years of experience, and we have treated more than 60,000 patients across the Bay Area. OrthoWorks is the longest-standing privately owned orthodontic group in the region.

Serving Patients Near the Excelsior and John McLaren Park

Our Mission Street office sits at the intersection of the Outer Mission and the Excelsior District, one of the most family-centered, ethnically diverse parts of San Francisco. The Excelsior is bordered by Mission Street, I-280, and John McLaren Park, and our office is positioned for families from Mission Terrace, Outer Mission, Crocker Amazon, Ingleside, and Daly City. Balboa High School (designated city landmark #205) is nearby. The Granada Theater site, the Royal Baking Company building, Crocker Amazon Park, and Excelsior Playground are all within close range. The 14-Mission Muni line runs along Mission Street and stops near our office. Patients also commute in from the Sunday Streets corridor that the Excelsior hosts.

What to Expect

Your first visit is a complimentary orthodontic consultation. We complete a full bite exam, take photos and any necessary imaging, and walk you through every option in front of you, including braces, Invisalign, and Phase I early treatment when appropriate. Braces placement takes about an hour and is comfortable. We see you every 6 to 8 weeks for short adjustments. Most full cases finish in 18 to 24 months. Every case ends with custom retainers and a long-term retention plan.
