Braces are still the most reliable way to move teeth, and modern brackets bear little resemblance to what most parents remember. At our Hercules office on Alfred Nobel Drive, OrthoWorks treats children, teens, and adults with traditional braces, all under the care of nine board-certified orthodontic specialists. Hercules and Pinole families have trusted OrthoWorks for decades because we treat every case as a long-term commitment, not a 20-month transaction.
Braces for Hercules Patients
Braces remain the gold standard for cases involving significant crowding, rotated teeth, deep bites, or growth-dependent corrections in younger patients. The brackets are smaller, smoother, and more comfortable than they used to be. We treat students from Hercules Middle & High School, Ohlone Elementary, Hanna Ranch Elementary, and Lupine Hills Elementary, plus adults from across the Hercules Waterfront, Foxboro, and the broader Pinole and West Contra Costa community.
For younger Hercules patients, the American Association of Orthodontists recommends an evaluation around age 7. That visit is free at our Hercules office, and most kids walk out with a monitoring plan rather than immediate treatment. When braces are needed, timing them to growth often improves outcomes and shortens overall treatment.
What Sets OrthoWorks Apart
Dr. David Shen, DMD, leads OrthoWorks as founder and senior orthodontist. He earned his dental degree at the University of Pennsylvania, served on the UCSF faculty, and chairs the Advisory Board at Penn’s School of Dental Medicine. He is the founding president of the Northern California Asian Dental Association. Our nine board-certified orthodontists have more than 100 years of combined experience and have treated over 60,000 patients across the Bay Area. OrthoWorks is the region’s longest-standing privately owned orthodontic group. The doctor who places your child’s brackets today will be on the team for retainer checks five years from now.

What to Expect
Your first visit is a complimentary orthodontic consultation. We complete a full exam, take photos and any necessary imaging, and walk you through every option in front of you, including braces, Invisalign, and Phase I early treatment when appropriate. Braces placement takes about an hour. We see you every 6 to 8 weeks for short adjustments. Most full cases finish in 18 to 24 months, and we end every case with retainers and a long-term retention plan.
